Announcement: Learning Proper Tonsil Stone Care

Tonsil stone care is important because your tonsils are part of a circle of protectors – Waldeyer’s Ring – surrounding the back of the throat as a crucial barrier. Set on either side of the back of the throat, the tonsils usually appear like small, dimpled golf balls.

Tonsil stone care involves removing and preventing the mouth debris such as bacteria and old cells, which form the stones in the first place, from the tonsils.

Just beyond the back of your tongue are your tonsils, small flaps of flesh located on either side of your throat. Tonsil stones, also called tonsilloliths, are caused by an accumulation of sulfur-producing bacteria and debris that become lodged in the tonsils.

This debris decomposes in the back of your throat and collects in the tonsil crypts. Along with the tonsil stones, this debris can also create chronic halitosis when it combines with the volatile sulfur compounds produced by the anaerobic bacteria beneath the surface of your tongue.

What is the remedy for tonsil stones once they form? A probiotic culture known as acidophilus may have a useful effect on tonsil stones. This largely homeopathic remedy is available in most health food stores, and it may help to break down the stones and prevent new ones from forming.

Antibiotics can also get rid of tonsil stones. Although tonsillectomies are not the commonplace childhood surgery they once were, getting one may still be the most effective remedy for tonsil stones.

Removal of the tonsils should only be done as a last resort. These remedies may be helpful:

1. Avoid dairy products for 1-2 hours before going to bed.

Dairy foods cause mucus secretions to be thicker, and this causes bacteria and food particles to stay in the throat longer. If you are asleep, this makes it easier for the particles to become lodged and begin forming stones.

2. Rebound on a mini trampoline for 10 minutes a day when the stones appear.

Odd as it sounds, the action of rebounding will increase the flow of lymph through your body, and can help dislodge the stones.

3. Solutions from TheraBreath.

Another tonsil stone care home remedy involves creating a solution known as ActivOxygen Solution, available from TheraBreath. Use 1-2 of the tablets in 8 oz. of water, and swallow 1-2 capfuls during the day.

Some people also place nasal sinus drops in their nostrils, and these penetrate the nose and sinus areas, reaching the bacteria that are hiding in places that are otherwise impossible to get to from the mouth.
